Getting started is never easy — especially in a European project like ASTERISK.
However, our partners are bringing remarkable energy and enthusiasm to the table, and it’s something worth sharing!
This week, ASTERISK is taking part in the European Hydrogen Week, a major event that brings together thousands of professionals, researchers, and policy-makers to explore the future of hydrogen as a key pillar of Europe’s clean energy transition.
Held in Brussels, the event attracts decision makers in hydrogen technologies from around the world to discuss the strategic, regulatory, and technological challenges surrounding hydrogen development. From fundamental and experimental science to applied industrial solutions, European Hydrogen Week fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange across sectors.
Several forums throughout the week will tackle critical issues such as the need for clear regulatory frameworks and the most effective pathways to achieving carbon neutrality. Also, the Innovation Forum will highlight the milestones and progress made through our funding entity, the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, showcasing cutting-edge research and successful projects — including ASTERISK.
A new path toward energy independence
According to the Hydrogen Europe association, hydrogen is not key to tackling the climate crisis – it is also a resilience instrument: “It enables Europe to store renewable energy, secure industrial competitiveness, and reduce dependence on external suppliers”. The current context of war and political tensions between countries also increases the need for energy independence in the European Union.
According to Pau Farràs, our project coordinator from the University of Galway: ‘Attending the European Hydrogen Week allows us to stay aligned with the latest advances and engage directly with other key players shaping the future of green hydrogen’.
‘In a way, ASTERISK represents a solution to the EU’s current energy needs — without abandoning our core ideals such as the search for alternatives to toxic substances and scarce materials’ adds Fernando Gomollón-Bel, from Agata Communications, the partner leading the day-to-day communication of the project.
With growing international attention on hydrogen as a cornerstone of the green transition, events like the European Hydrogen Week are essential to connect science, policy, and industry — and ASTERISK is proud to be part of the conversation!
About ASTERISK
ASTERISK is a new project co-funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership the European Union with a total budget of almost €4 million, which will develop new technologies to transform seawater into clean hydrogen. The collaborative consortium, made up of 12 partners from 8 different countries, will spend three years designing and manufacturing an electrolyser that meets the demands of large consumers while reducing its impact on the environment.
